Claire Mackie studied oboe and cor anglais at St Mary’s Music School, Edinburgh before being awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now Royal Conservatoire of Scotland). Playing predominantly cor anglais, Claire was a member of both the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra, where she convened the players’ committee and also the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland.
Following a wrist injury preventing any furthering of a musical career, Claire went on to study primary education at Strathclyde University bringing music in to every classroom she taught in, before working in business development and marketing. Claire is now a professional fundraiser and has worked for a number of large UK and Scottish charities.
Claire is a full member of the Institute of Fundraising and a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Claire is delighted to accept this new role of Chief Executive of the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra and is looking forward to supporting Scotland’s young musicians, increasing and enhancing their musical opportunities.
